A Fairies' Feast

I almost cried doing the laundry (well I almost cry everyday cause I have to do the laundry) no but really, for some reason, I was taking Lilly's little overalls with the OshKosh pink patch on the chest pocket, and I was checking in the pocket to make sure she didn't stow anything, because she's a big hunter and gatherer. And inside the pocket there was nothing, just three little acorn tops, with the stem on them, they look like tiny wooden Christmas ornaments, and for some reason, holding these little things in my hand, her treasures that she found from looking on the ground and then deemed important enough to pick up and save for later, this just unhinged me.

I think cause I was in the hallway where the laundry room is, and I was striding about thinking all these Important Matters and doing Important Mom Things and worrying ahead about something that needed worrying about and absently digging through tiny pockets and then there is Lilly's whole life, her acorns. Her wandering and singing to herself and talking to sticks and gathering up interesting rocks and plants. That is real life. I felt part of real life, holding those acorns, divine nature. There're some moments where all your fake priorities just fall all shattered into vapor and the real message of life just rests there contentedly on your palm. Lilly's message to stop and look and touch and yes take it all in your nearest pocket. Those acorns cost nothing. They're everywhere in the park, and they're so tiny, like fairies' goblets.

That Lilly is a fairies' feast, and she handed life back to me, right there in the laundry room.
