Barefoot in the Big City

There's a mom in London called Slummy Mummy who has a column in the London paper there. I'm reading her book. Thinking of becoming LA's version of Slummy Mummy. I'm more LA Farmer Mom - like my new blog, Momish (Mom plus Amish equals Momish). I'm more about how to be barefoot in the big city. With kids, chickens and ponies. The world moves too fast for me. The kids stop to look at crickets, horses go slower than cars and chickens will always drop everything for a donut. I actually like that whenever I walk out into the yard, and even SEEM to be heading toward the chicken area, they all stop what they're doing and RUN to the gate, just in CASE I'm coming to see them. With snacks. They can't smile, so they seem very serious about the food. And yet they look so comic without any arms to wave around.

In kindergarten, Lilly has gone from yelling out "HEY!! WE HAVE THAT BOOK AT HOME!!" when her teacher is reading, to raising her hand politely and then yelling "HEY!!!" to now she just waves her hand like she's trying to flag down an aircraft carrier. Ahh, the rules of polite society.

We spent the weekend in the pool and actually watched time go by while sweating. This early school start in the middle of summer is bizarre. Then we had game night at McDonald's so Lilly could play in the playplace and shimmy up poles practically to the ceiling while all us older kids played Scattergories and drank soda or ate ice cream. We don't like McD's, so we smuggle in OTHER food and eat it there, while blatantly using their playplace and soda machine. In this certain instance, I love the modern world, and do not miss being Amish.
