The Tooth that Broke my Back

Nathan broke a tooth, or the fake chip of tooth to cover the tooth he broke years ago, broke off again, so I had to go rescue him from school. Because I remember being at school and having MY fake tooth break off and how terrible it makes you feel. So we run to the dentist this morning, another day missing school, and she says we have to have the braces taken off the front tooth so she can fix the tooth and then the braces put back on. Tomorrow.

I already took this day off, now he'll be off tomorrow. And it was raining, and I let the other kids stay home because it was dark and raining and there were tooth problems and I thought what is WRONG around here? I am having to use weekdays to catch up on regular life. It's like life is hurtling at us.

It could be that we had 3 basketball practices for two days in a row, which is 3 hours, each night, at the gym. But didn't people used to have to actually BUILD THEIR OWN HOUSES? How is it that I can't manage the gym and the tooth breaking without dissolving into watching "Let's Make a Deal" at 9 a.m. on a school day with all my kids home?

I'm starting to feel like a crappy parent. At least everyone is really smart, they could miss the semester and still do allright on the tests. But there's something about continuity here that's screwed.

Anyway, tooth fixed tomorrow after hours of dental time, and then no more school misses. Unless we go to Disneyland.
