The Longest Yard

We spent all weekend (okay, an hour on Sunday) ripping out the old white falling-down fence in the front yard and attacking the overgrown grass with sharp shovels. Lilly was out there right in the middle of the 80 degree day, lamenting that she had no shovel. She tried to help dig with a plastic screwdriver. She almost found treasure.

Why is it always the minute they want to help, it's the one tool that we don't have? Must go get little garden spade for a dollar and let her help. Nathan, on the other hand, shoveled for about one minute (it is really hard, I shoveled for at least TWO), and then disappeared in the backyard on urgent business. You know he's hiding when he's really quiet, probably laying under a table on the floor praying nobody finds him. Emma sat in the swing reading, like every good heroine in a romance novel.

So what got done was only what mostly Tim did, and what Lilly and I did. So we did a corner. But at least now the yard looks worse. Heh heh.
